Dental Exams

A dental exam is an important part of maintaining your oral health. A dentist or dental hygienist will perform a thorough examination of your teeth and gums, looking for signs of disease or decay.

What is a dental exam used for?

A dental exam is a thorough health check of your teeth, gums, and jaw. Dental exams are important for all adults and children. A dental exam can help detect problems before they become serious.

At your dental exam, we’ll perform a consultation to discuss your concerns and any pain you’re experiencing so we can take appropriate steps toward improving your oral health and overall quality of life!

Process of a Dental Exam

It’s recommended that you have a dental exam every six months, but it can be more frequent if you’ve had recent medical problems or if your dentist advises more frequent exams.

During a typical appointment, we will assess your oral health and determine whether any further treatment is needed. This may include:

  • Obtaining Dental Xrays to check the health of your teeth
  • Completing Dental Cleanings
  • Whitening Teeth to fix any discoloration
  • Fill in Cavities
  • Place Dental Implants
  • Perform Root Canals
  • Suggest & Install Braces

…& more

Why do I need a Dental Exam?

Aside from the basics, during your dental exam, we can help you develop a long-term treatment plan with your dentist.

Dental exams are critical for patients with existing health issues such as diabetes, heart disease, or hypertension as many of these conditions affect the mouth as well as other parts of the body.

How to Prepare for a Dental Exam

If you have a dental exam coming up, here are some things to consider:

  • The day before your appointment, do not eat anything with candy or sugar in it, as this can increase the decline of your oral health & get stuck in your teeth.
  • On the morning of your appointment, you can eat breakfast but avoid foods that are sticky or chewy, like bagels and sticky cereals such as some granola bars that contain raisins or dried fruit (which can get caught in braces and teeth alike).
  • After the appointment is over and you’ve left the dentist’s office make sure to keep up with your oral hygiene! Many dentists recommend flossing &  brushing twice daily
