The Lumineers Process

Initial Consultation

The first step is a consultation with our Northridge dentist. During this appointment, Dr. Gropp will discuss your dental health and aesthetic goals and evaluate whether Lumineers are an appropriate treatment option.

Preparation

If you’re a candidate for Lumineers, our Northridge dentist will take an impression or mold of your teeth. This mold will be sent to a dental laboratory where your Lumineers will be custom-made to fit your teeth and match your desired tooth color.

During this stage, unlike traditional veneers, there’s usually no need for extensive tooth reshaping or temporary veneers while you wait for your Lumineers to be created. This is because Lumineers are so thin (approximately 0.2 mm) and highly translucent, allowing them to replicate the natural appearance of enamel without significant tooth alteration.

Application

Once your Lumineers are ready, you’ll return to our Northridge dentist’s office for the application appointment. Dr. Gropp will place the Lumineers onto your teeth to check the fit and color. We can make any adjustments at this point before attaching them. Once you’re satisfied with the fit and appearance, we’ll clean your teeth and etch them (a process to make the tooth surface rougher) for a strong bonding process.

After this, Dr. Gropp applies a special cement to the Lumineers and places them onto your teeth. A curing light then hardens the cement and bonds the Lumineers to your teeth. Any excess cement is removed, and final adjustments are made as needed.

Follow-Up

Dr. Gropp may want to schedule a follow-up appointment at our Northridge dental office to check on your Lumineers and your bite and to address any questions or concerns you may have after the procedure.
